Dr.Caroline Hendy

My interest in optometry began when I was just seven years old. I remember visiting Dr. Porter in Geneva, Ohio, for my first eye examination. He was kind and attentive, but what I remember most vividly was walking outside afterward and realizing, for the first time, that I could see individual leaves on trees. That experience was life-changing and ultimately inspired me to become an optometrist.

I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1996 and established Eyedeal Eyecare in London, Kentucky, in 1999.

For approximately 25 years, I practiced within the traditional insurance-based model of optometry. Over time, I became increasingly disillusioned with a system of growing administrative demands, stagnant reimbursements, and mounting pressure to see more patients in less time. Too much time and too many resources were being devoted to satisfying insurance requirements rather than caring for patients.

I eventually realized that creating my ideal practice meant changing the way I practiced. Transitioning Eyedeal Eyecare to a direct-pay model gave me the freedom to focus on what matters most: the relationship between doctor and patient. Today, I reserve a full hour for comprehensive eye examinations, allowing time to listen, educate, answer questions, and make recommendations based on each patient’s individual needs rather than the limitations of an insurance plan.
